The Power Strip That Wasn't Supposed to Matter This Much

Most power distributors don't get reviewed. They get plugged in, forgotten, and only remembered when someone finally counts how many things are crammed into one wall socket. So when Soundnews called the GoldCore 6 NoiseBlock Power Distributor the biggest surprise of a review that also covered six of our cables, that was worth reading twice. Reviewers don't usually say that about a power strip.

Here's the tradeoff most people have quietly accepted: a power conditioner cleans up your system's noise, but it often does it by choking the current a little. You get a quieter background and a slightly softer punch. It's a fair trade, and a lot of listeners have made peace with it without ever questioning why it has to be that way.

The GoldCore 6 was built to avoid that trade entirely. Instead of filtering the current directly, in what's called a series design, it uses passive noise-rejection modules sitting off to the side of the main path. The current keeps flowing unobstructed. Interference gets pulled out separately. On paper, this is about as strong a spec sheet as a power distributor gets: Furutech outlets, star-grounded wiring, graphene-based filtering. The real question was always whether it would hold up outside the spec sheet.

Putting it under real load

Soundnews didn't test this gently. They ran it with a pair of monoblock amplifiers pulling 3,500 watts each at full output, roughly as demanding a load as home audio gets. That's not a typical review setup. That's a stress test.

The result: no drop in dynamics, even at high output. And the background got quieter anyway. The reviewer described being genuinely caught off guard by it, noting they hadn't tested anything quite like it before, coming from someone who's been through conditioners costing several times more.

That's the part that matters. Not that it made things "sound better," but that it didn't make the usual compromise. Bass stayed physical. Transients stayed sharp. And somewhere underneath all of that, the noise floor dropped without anyone having to give anything up for it.

Why that's harder than it sounds

Star grounding is a big part of why this works. Instead of routing all six outlets through one shared line, each outlet gets its own direct path back to the input. That alone reduces how much connected components interfere with each other, before noise filtering even enters the picture.

Then there's the filtering itself: graphene layers and piezo-electric mineral compounds built into passive modules, positioned so they never sit directly in the current's way. It's a quieter kind of engineering, nothing lights up, nothing hums, nothing needs a power switch of its own. It just sits there and does the one job it was built for.

Worth being honest about

One test, one system, one room. That's true of any review, and it's worth saying plainly instead of hiding behind vague claims. What Soundnews measured is real, but it's also specific to their setup, their amplifiers, their speakers, their space. A power distributor is one link in a chain, and it can't fix a noisy chain on its own, bad grounding or a messy power setup upstream will still show up somewhere.

What this review does confirm is the underlying idea: that you don't have to choose between a clean signal and a system that still hits hard when it needs to. That was always the bet with this design. It's satisfying to see someone independent put it under real strain and come back saying it held.
